What is your name, age and general location?
Bill Flynn, 43, Chicago
What is your email address?
billflynn1@yahoo.com
Which is your favourite real life team? How did you end up following them?
Chicago Cubs/Chicago White Sox. Grew up and have lived in and around Chicago my whole life. There aren't many fans of both of these teams anymore given interleague play and the general nature of the north side/south side thing in Chicago, but I watched them both as a youth prior to interleague, they were both generally bad, it never seemed they'd ever meet in any actual games of importance, and it seemed prudent to root for both.
How did you find this league?
So, I will go into this further below, but I was part of this league a couple years ago (Dec 2018 thru Jan 2020) as manager of the Brewers. I reached out to Stephen last November when I saw an opening via Fantrax forum to see if a re-application to the league would be possible.
Please give a brief overview of your fantasy baseball experience. How many other leagues are you currently a member of, and what format are they (ie H2H, roto, redraft, keeper, auction etc)?
Been playing for over a decade w/ plenty of dynasty experience. I'm currently in 2 other leagues - another 30 team dynasty that I picked up just prior to 2020 season and a 24 team dynasty that I joined this last offseason. Had a couple longer standing leagues that unfortunately just petered out after COVID year.
How often will you be available to be contacted by fellow owners in this league?
I will be available daily.
This is a league with 30 teams in it, and as such it can be expected that there will be a rather large number of teams that will not contend every season. Would you be content with building for the future? Do you need to always be in competition in order to remain interested in the league?
Yes, I would be content in a situation where I was building for the future. That said, I'm always going to be looking to make the team better and compete as soon as is possible.
Is there any other information you think we as a league should know in order to best determine your eligibility?
The best information as to my eligibility is also, unfortunately, the worst.
As to the good, as mentioned above, I was previously a member of this league. I am familiar w/ the rules/mechanisms of the league, was part of the trade committee/handled many team roster checks after the 2019 season and have interacted and traded w/ about 20 of the current managers. I'm know the quality of competition I'm up against and, while not the smartest or most knowledgeable of the group, I believe I showed that I can hold my own in my previous time here. I will always be active and accessible.
As to the bad, I quit the league out of nowhere in Jan 2020. The short of it is, I was putting a lot of time into this league and thought there was a lack care/communication from some managers and there was some rule change discussion that annoyed me (can't even remember what it was) and I blew the whole thing way out of proportion in my head and just left instead of dealing w/ it. The long of it is, I had a job that was killing me, some of the issues here were issues that I had w/ that job (except the issues were 1000X greater at that job, obvs), and since I didn't feel I could quit the job, I quit here instead.
I'm in a much better place than I was a couple years ago and would very much like to correct the mistake of leaving this league if you'll have me.
Please post links to any other leagues you participate in.
pbfantasybaseball.proboards.com/ - 30 team league, Baltimore Orioles. Took over rebuild prior to 2020, lost AL championship to eventual champ 6.5 to 5.5 in 2021, am positioned well again for run at championship 2022.
