Red Sox accept. Players dropped. Thanks Mo for the informative trade block that got my wheels in motion.
The more I’ve thought about my roster, I could use some depth in order to contend even if half these guys finished 2023 in the minors. In return I am sending three current major leaguers - one who has received Cy Young votes in past and coming off his best season since 2019, one that made the all-star team in 2023 and brings valuable MPE, and ironically one guy who is no longer on the Dbacks IRL, plus a former top 100 prospect who might officially debut and be Moreno’s backup with a good spring. I liked but did not love these four fellas, and ultimately breaking up ERod's reasonable salary into multiple pieces was an attractive idea.
Wong gives me a stronger C tandem and helps me play the Red Sox current catching pipeline moving forward (maybe Teel and Wong split the role 2025 forward). Colas struggled in his rookie year, but he did not spend a long time in the upper minors, so like my belief last winter in Perdomo, I think he'll show improvement in Year 2 (and he's got lots of opportunity with the White Sox if he can seize it). Although both are expiring contracts, Stratton is a reliable and affordable bullpen arm with a good situation in KC, and Neris is a high performer that will land somewhere with high leverage opps over the next month or so. Rumor has it Dalbec (dingers) will get serious consideration for a MLB role with the Sox again (corner IF and/or OF) - and if he doesn't, rumor has it some other orgs with lesser infields would like to pluck him and give him some run. Hummel has some unique versatility without getting much PT at the MLB level thus far, but the transitional year for the Mets seems like a good opp. Castellanos had TJ in late 2022, and given his history of good command as a starter in the minors, I think he will get some innings in a swingman role in near future - in Arizona or elsewhere.
