Mets receive:
1B/LF/RF Alex Kirilloff (MIN) $1.0 4th; www.fangraphs.com/players/alex-kirilloff/20325/stats?position=1B/OF
Marlins receive:
2B/3B Jonathan Schoop (FA) $6.0 2024; www.fangraphs.com/players/jonathan-schoop/11265/stats?position=2B
1B/3B Jhonkensy Noel (Guardians) $0.3 1st; www.fangraphs.com/players/jhonkensy-noel/sa3005579/stats?position=1B/3B/OF
SS Jeremy Rodriguez (Mets) $0.3 1st; www.fangraphs.com/players/jeremy-rodriguez/sa3021101/stats?position=SS
Cap change:
Mets: -$5.6
Marlins: +$5.6
Acquisition threads:
Schoop: mlbbaseballleague.proboards.com/thread/6500/padres-mets
Kiriloff: mlbbaseballleague.proboards.com/thread/7882/marlins-twins
Noel: mlbbaseballleague.proboards.com/thread/7385/royals-mets
I think this is my official raising of the white flag. As a new owner last year, I felt that I needed to make the most of my ready-to-win roster and go all-in. Now I'm in the spot of losing several key FAs who I won't be able to re-sign, having a few pre-existing holes that I didn't have a lot of resources to fill, and having a depleted farm system from repeated deals to improve the MLB squad. So, it's time to bite the bullet and sell short-term pieces to build a longer-term winner.
Taking on Schoop is the price to get two prospects to start the rebuild/retool. Noel peaked a couple of offseasons ago, but I'm hopeful that he's able to gain some part time DH/CI/COF ABs starting this season. Rodriguez is the long-term play that the Mets picked up from AZ for Tommy Pham, and grades-out as a solid SS option in a few years - the type of slow burn prospect that I am sorely lacking in my system.
Thanks to Conor for the quick talks. Best of luck with Kiriloff and see you in the 2025 playoff race!
