Hello,
I am Brian Hanley, 47, Springfield Illinois email address: bhanley23@yahoo.com Favorite Team: New York Mets. My father was a Dodger fan from back when they were in Brooklyn. My favorite player was Mike Piazza growing up watching with my dad, and when Murdoch ran LA into the ground and traded Piazza, I followed him to the Mets (via the Marlins) and stayed after his retirement. I found the league on the Fantrax message board. I am in a 32 team NFL league and really like the franchise style.
I founded a local fantasy baseball group in 2009 with a live in-person draft and very few trades or moves (Yahoo). A lot of those members are older and can't maneuver online as well. I supplement my need for the day to day activity with a second dynasty (invite Only) league. This league moved to Fantrax from Yahoo before the 2023 season which is how I found Fantrax.
I have never left a league mid-season. Any that I have not renewed had scoring that made for a non authentic experience, which is why I really like the 30 team leagues that take time to build and maintain.
I will be new to Proboards, but my football league uses discord and I have both apps on my phone so I can get notified with any new activity, trade talk, etc. I would expect to be on Proboards as much, if not more, than Fantrax.
I understand that the team I would be inheriting will not be good, but the building and maintaining of a franchise year after year is the intriguing part. Anyone can redraft year after year.
Nothing else at this time, but feel free to ask any other questions.
Brian Hanley

Hi Brian,
Thank you for filling out the application. Never abandoning a team mid-season is a very good trait. Being a fan of Mike Piazza is another point in your favor.
Our current vacancy is for the San Diego Padres. If you get a chance to look over the roster, it would be good. There are a few cornerstones already there; and with almost $30 in available cap space, the team can proceed in any direction the next GM deems best.
Our free agency period is slated to begin on Monday, so, if approved, there will be a lot to consider in a short time.
Rangers GM (Stephen) will probably get back in touch with you shortly. Thanks for considering this league. It’s a good place to compete.

Hi Brian,
Sorry for the delay - I've been away this weekend visiting old university housemates.
I'll be in contact as soon as possible to progress the application process - hopefully this evening.
Many thanks, Stephen

Hi Brian,
If you are on the desktop view, you should be able to find it towards the top of the screen under the 'Messages' header. This is the usual method of private communication, first used during the application process and then as the primary messaging tool for trade discussions between owners as well as any other 1-2-1 chat or notifications that may take place.
Please let me know if you do not see the message.
Many thanks, Stephen

Congratulations Brian! The San Diego Padres are proud to welcome you back as their new general manager. A fun and rewarding future awaits as you chart the course of your franchise!
What are the next steps to be taken to get started on the right foot?
1) Post your own roster page in your team folder. For continuity your first roster should contain the exact same players as the previous team roster. If you wish to make changes to your roster (by protecting/unprotecting players) then these should be posted on the Roster Transactions board after your own roster page has been posted. You should also check that the arbitration contracts of all of your players are accurate - you don't want to be unnecessarily overpaying anyone! The format of the roster page is open for customisation by each owner, but please bear in mind that it should be easy to read and well maintained. You may find the FAQ page helpful.
2) Notify the commissioner if there is a player on a multi-year guaranteed contract whose contract length you would like to reduce (rule 2.13).
If you are taking over a team that has recently been unowned during free agency, notify one of the commissioners if there are any automatically signed players who you would like to drop (rule 5.9.5).
3) Check your real life team's major and minor league rosters to see if you can protect any arbitration players of value that your predecessor missed.
4) Check your email for an invitation to Fantrax. (Consult with the commissioner if there are any difficulties or delays.)
5) Check your Fantrax roster. It should match your Proboards roster and only include players receiving a salary on your team.
6) Post a trade block. You can't agree to a trade until your trade block has been posted for a week.
Make good use of your trade block, player evaluation advice, and the one week acclimatization period. The “trade block guidance” page is your friend. Please do not overlook this valuable tool. It is required reading.
7) Protect a player (see Section VII of the rules). You won't be allowed to trade until this step is taken as a demonstration of understanding the procedure.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. You can post it publicly under "General Chat", or ask any experienced league member. We’re here to help.
From all of your fellow friends and competitors, welcome to our league!

Brian, just fyi, prior Padres owner had just agreed to send Tatis for Garrett Cooper. I assume you will want to honor that.
Cheers and welcome, Andy (Mighty Orioles)
