Rockies rationale:
There are many moving pieces in a 10 player deal. The concept behind the trade for the Rockies was to acquire a solid CF bat with the hopes that Bellinger will fill this role in 2023. If his rebound continues, his salary could be manageable in 2024+. Boxberger is another bullpen piece who could contribute. On the other side of the exchange, the best pieces are the prospects Gray, Vines and Adams (Welker is a bit of a wild card). Pivetta has settled into a bullpen role and could be useful, but he was expendable. Pollock has not lived up to expectations along with Engel and Calhoun who are basically in the deal to match up the salary. The deal moves a lot of non-Rockies prospects, but the Rockies are in win-now mode, so it is a gamble the Rockies are comfortable taking.
Rockies players dropped on Fantrax.
Cubs to confirm.
