The MLB trade deadlines for the foreseeable future will all fall between July 28th - August 3rd. (https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/trade-waivers-aug-31-deadline)
The MBL trade deadline is described as “11:59pm ET on the Sunday of the 16th regular season matchup.” (Rule 4.10)
I’m not advocating for any changes to this year’s schedule, but it would seem to be a useful thing going forward to ensure that our deadline falls after the MLB deadline. There might be more opportunities for movement that open up after the deck gets reshuffled a little. GMs could also have a little more certainty about the playing time landscape.
Would it be worthwhile to consider adding a clause to Rule 4.10 (imitating MLB) giving our commissioner the ability to change the deadline to “24 hours after the MLB trade deadline” or something along those lines? (Or just change the complete rule to “24 hours after the MLB trade deadline.”)

Or maybe even Sunday following the trade deadline so we keep with the Sunday theme?

I would also be in favor of ensuring that our trade deadline happens after the conclusion of the MLB trade deadline. The Sunday after the MLB deadline makes a lot of sense to me as well.

Not to get too complicated, and I suspect MLB will continue to use a Tuesday or Wednesday for itself. But something like the first Sunday at least 2 days after the MLB deadline might be future-proof. I'd hate to see a scenario where MLB made their deadline on a Saturday and then we are in a mad scramble for 24 hours where some teams get shut because they couldn't clear some free time that fast.

I do wonder whether in our format there are real life deadline trades that would make a significant difference to player value. In a league with Saves only I can imagine it could be big, but SP or hitter values shouldn't change too much? A fringy guy is still a fringy guy, no matter who he plays for.
Whilst we love trading, there does need to be a test some separation between the end of the regular season and our own deadline.
I dunno, I'm not sure on this one - but not really fussed either way. Let's see how the vote goes.

It seems my whole team is usually comprised of fringy guys who may or may not have a consistent role by tomorrow afternoon. Aside from the change in player values, staggering the deadlines could help a GM identify their legitimate needs. I can imagine quite a few decent players who might end up paired with a platoon partner at the deadline, or squeezed out by a better defender, thus making them suddenly unreliable in our game.
On the other side, however, I also wonder if delaying the deadline might have the effect of suppressing some activity while we all wait for clarity. If I were competing, I would feel obligated to replace Yuli Gurriel, even though he has played quite well for over a month now. If our deadline was delayed, I would certainly prefer to wait to see the landscape when MLB finishes shuffling things around. So, I can also imagine a result where the change condenses more of our activity into a tighter window, which may not be best.
I’m happy however the vote falls. On the whole, I do lean toward thinking the change as written in the voting thread would be an improvement. The more information, the better.

The other key piece is the interest in trading expiring assets to the team that would benefit from their hometown discount. Lots and lots of players change real life teams during our Mibble expiration seasons, and those players suddenly have a significant value gain to the receiving affiliate here. But having our trade deadline before the real life one, some teams won't want to acquire veteran talent for fear the discount will change too late to cash in.

This seems to be a fairly important point that I had not considered.
