I will preface this by saying I'm happy to be overruled if others have a different take.

I guess I read the "99.9%" quote and think that I wouldn't find it surprising if he signed a deal w/ the Pirates tomorrow or something. Also, the source on this is maybe not the most reliable guy on the planet given his Ohtani reporting this offseason.

Thanks for the reminder Bill. I meant to come back to this last night, but forgot.
I agree that it doesn’t quite meet the threshold of an announced retirement. One of the articles is quoted as saying: “Guerra, 38, said barring a last-minute contract offer, he's done playing in Major League Baseball.”
That quote makes it appear that an official announcement could come soon.

I think the combination of '99.9%' and 'barring a last-minute contract offer' put enough doubt in my mind.
