Nationals trade: RF Alex Verdugo $3.5 6th (Yankees) Guardians trade: 1B Anthony Rizzo $9.0 2024 (Yankees) SS Nasim Nunez $0.3 1st (Nationals) www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=nunez-000nasSP Justin Campbell $0.3 1st (Guardians) www.mlb.com/prospects/guardians/justin-campbell-683235Cap change: Nats: +$6.1 Guards: -$6.1 It's the end of an era as this is probably my last cap-eating deal as I look to transition into competing for real next year. I sacrifice a little bit of cap space and some roster flexibility picking up Rizzo, but I expect he will put up OK numbers and help keep my team a little fiesty in case Manzardo or Baker aren't ready to be my full time 1B yet. But the real reason I am doing this is to pick up the two prospects, Nunez was recently selected int he Rule V by the Nats and, while I don't think he is going to hit for enough power to ever be a big league regular, his glove and speed could keep him employed as a utility guy that I can pop in at SS from time to time when I need some SB. Campbell is an exciting prospect despite some injury history, a high floor college arm from last years draft he has the build and the right organization to add some velocity and hopefully raise his ceiling a bit. I'm hoping he can be a fast riser with a healthy year in '24. Appreciate the talks Jay, good luck this year. I accept. This trade was about adding cap space for FA, to hopefully round out my squad for perhaps my final run before rebuilding. While I'm losing Rizzo, who if he's healthy (big if) can put up nice numbers, I'm really excited about getting Verdugo. Being a Red Sox fan, he was polarizing on our squad and didn't have the power to put up big numbers due to Fenway's configuration for lefties. However, moving to Yankee stadium, with that tantalizingly short right field porch, could be a game changer for him. I do like the 2 specs I'm giving up, but feel with Cleveland having secured the #1 pick in the upcoming mlb draft, I had some leeway to trade them. Thanks for the negotiations Alex and glad we were able to work this out.
Rizzo, Nunez and Campbell have been dropped on Fantrax.
