Despite both needing to navigate the extra matchup of wildcard week, the 2023 Mibble World Series will see a repeat of the 2022 contest between the Royals and the Braves. The Royals are hoping to become the first two-time league winner, whilst the Braves are looking for their first ring. The Braves will enjoy homefield advantage by virtue of their 3 game better regular season performance. Congratulations, and good luck to both teams.
Commiserations to the Rockies and the Orioles for the premature end to fantastic seasons. The Rockies had a very strong showing under new leadership, whilst the Orioles continued to improve on their own long-term rebuild from the squalid roster which was inherited by current ownership.
The NL provided the more exciting Championship matchup, with Rockies legitimately in the hunt into the final day. A win here and a couple of HR there would have been enough to sway the matchup enough towards their homefield advantage, but Braves held on to the fragile lead they'd been nurturing for much of the past two weeks to advance.
The writing felt like it had been on the wall in the AL after Royals dominated several categories in the first week. It would have needed a tightrope-walk for Orioles to hold on to the remaining categories and turn the tide, but it was not to be.
It is probably no consolation to them, but if the Brewers had progressed to this stage they would have set new LCS records for HR, SB and BA, whilst also troubling the scorers in the R and RBI categories... playoff baseball truly is a fickle mistress.
I can't pick a favourite between the Royals and the Braves this year. Can you?
The following LCS records were set: Runs: Braves (71) took 4th RBIs: Royals (68) took 5th SBs: Royals (12) joined what is now a tie for 2nd SBs: Orioles (11) joined what is now a 3-way tie for 4th BA: Braves (.290) took 2nd BA: Royals (.285) took what is now 3rd Ks: Braves (146) took 5th SVHD: Orioles (15) joined what is now a 3-way tie for 3rd ERA: Royals (2.97) took 4th

What a close week! Jeez…I was on edge every day, especially when Mike took an 8-2 lead on like Wednesday or something. Feel like at one point Kershaw and somebody else were slated to pitch yesterday for the Rockies, but both starts were pushed back? We both threw Pirates starters against the IRL Braves, which was a knock to both our ERAs and WHIPs…and probably not the best strategy in hindsight, but Keller’s egg combined with Strider’s tough start put me in a precarious position. Not to mention Mike’s 4SB in one day that sealed that category for him.
Cody Bellinger is a machine, but Marcus Semien stepped up down the stretch to put me over on a few categories despite Bellinger’s silly numbers. Thanks, Marcus.
And good luck moving forward, Mike. You’ve got a scary young core there. See you in the playoffs next year!

Kudos to the Royals and Braves. Was pleased with how my team did this round (let's not look too closely at era/whip) but the Royals were just better and never let me come up for air. Looks like Jordan went in the record book for a bunch of categories--too strong for the Orioles this matchup. Good luck to both teams (but go Royals, make the AL proud! )

World series update:
ATL take the honours in the first week, leading 6-3-1 at the halfway stage. No category is safe. Everything is still in play.

And so. Here we are. With just three days remaining, the sun is setting on the 2023 season.
Since the last update, Atlanta have widened their advantage and are now within touching distance of their first Mibble crown as they hold a 8-1-1 lead. That being said, all is not yet lost for Kansas City. It would take a stunning comeback from here, but looking at the category leads it is not outside the realm of possibility. Could there be one last turnaround - one last sting in the tail - for Mibble 2023?

2-7-1 with two days to go... the fat lady isn't quite clearing her throat just yet...

Still see a glimmer of hope for the Royals.

Still see a glimmer of hope for the Royals. Agreed. It would be pretty wild, but it looks possible to me.

Losing Max and now Randy has been a blow for the Royals. I’d hate to see the tallies if they were both 100% for our matchup. Fantastic performance from Manaea against the Dodgers and Sale’s dominance has made this Sunday a nail biter for me. I’m happy my Braves were Postponed yesterday, as it will give me more ABs, but my boys haven’t exactly run away with the opportunity. Royals had been slated to have two SP today, but now just one guy is throwing against Strider…who is known to lay an dud more often than he should. Our RP has been pretty darn bad, too…just so many blown saves/holds.
We’ll know by dinner time, I think, but two WS in a row against these Royals has been a nerve wracking good time. The current scoreboard is not nearly as tight as the reality of facing Jordan’s squad, and I’m definitely anticipating some late category flips. Fingers crossed I come out on top with my first title here, but it’s been a joy competing against ya, Royals.
