Week 9 notes and records
Division leaders: - Orioles - Royals - Rangers - Marlins - Brewers - Rockies
Wild Card leaders: - Rays - Jays - Astros - Braves - Pirates - Cardinals
Notes: - No teams achieved a 10-0 win this week. - The Orioles regained the lead (by half a game) of the AL East from the Rays, who now occupy AL WC1. - The Jays pushed the Angels out of the AL WC spots, jumping to AL WC2. The Astros drop to AL WC3, with LA only 1.5 game behind the wildcard spots. - Doth my eyes deceive me? After undergoing one of the longer rebuilds in league history, could the Cardinals moving ahead of the Giants into the NL WC3 slot be a signal that the corner has finally been turned? - Only the two eastern divisions have leads which could be overturned in one-matchup. The other four divisions all have double-digit gaps between first and second. - Despite the advanced stage of the regular season, only 2 teams in the AL and 3 teams in the NL currently sit more that 10 games outside of the final playoff spot in their league. - Of the three new (7 day matchup) hitting records added to the books in 2023, two have been in the SB category. After the Brewers were just 1 SB shy of joining a tie for 5th last week, the Red Sox repeated the same feat this week and were one SB short of joining the records this week. Random distribution, or a sign of the times? - All teams met the AB and IP minimums for scoring.
Records: - SBs: Rangers (12) joined what is now a tie for 5th

Torey Lovullo sabotaged my foray into history. Jake McCarthy had a gazillion steals, but Lovullo rested him Saturday, and it was too late for me to put in Pablo Reyes for the doubleheader in his place (of course he stole a base). I think I was at 8 or 9 thru Thursday. I’ll take my first win in six weeks though!
