Week 8 notes and records
Division leaders: - Rays - Royals - Rangers - Marlins - Brewers - Rockies
Wild Card leaders: - Orioles - Astros - Angels - Jays - Braves - Pirates - Giants
Notes: - One team achieved a 10-0 win this week. Congrats to the Astros for blanking the Cubs. - In a possible statement win, the NL West-dominating Rockies defeated the previously AL East-leading Orioles 9-1-0. Colorado now enjoys a 15.5 game lead over their closest divisional rival. - The Rays took the lead of the AL East from the Orioles, who remain firmly in the playoff picture as current AL WC1. - The Astros pushed the Jays out of the AL WC spots, jumping to AL WC2. The Angels remain in AL WC3, with the Jays only 1 game behind the Halos. - The 15th overall Giants slipped half a game in front of the Cardinals and into the NL WC3 slot. - The largest divisional lead belongs to the Brewers, who despite being chased by the NL WC2 Pirates have still somehow managed to earn a 20 game lead after only 8 weeks. - The top 3 overall teams reside in the NL, whilst 9 of the next 11 teams in the standings are from the AL. - The Brewers were just 1 SB shy of joining a tie for 5th in the matchup record books. - Despite the Dodgers giving it their best shot, these days you have to do better (worse?) than a 8.16 ERA and a 2.058 WHIP (across 28.2 IP) to get into the record books. Still, I think any 2+ WHIP is a very noteworthy performance. - All teams met the AB and IP minimums for scoring.
Records: - Runs: Rangers (47) joined what is now a tie for 4th, knocking a 6-way tie for 5th out of the record books. Immortality is no more for the 2016 Rangers and Cardinals, 2017 Red Sox, and those rabbit-ball era 2019 Cubs, Rangers and Padres.

Just happy to climb out of last place in the AL East for a hot second. Take THAT, Evil Empire!

We’re back to our old ways. Too many “R” teams atop the divisions.

Just for the record my terrible pitching (kinda impressive?) could’ve been even worse…that’s with my Miller boys (Bobby Miller and Bryce Miller) combining for 12 IP, 0.83 ERA, 0.750 WHIP. The joys of a rebuild.
