Providing a trade reasoning is a vital way of maintaining the integrity and quality of the league. It allows our elected TC body to confirm that the move you are making has been properly considered and is in your opinion definitely right for your team. It is your responsibility as the trader to convince TC that the move you are making is valid and correct - something which is particularly important for trades involving high value players or that may be contentious. In this vein, "I like X and Y" is often not enough.
We're not asking for the full works of Shakespeare, but what we do ask is that you provide logical reasoning. Something like :
"I appreciate Babe Ruth is the number 1 fantasy option right now, but he's expensive and only has two years of control. I'm not competing again for a couple of years, and I won't be able to afford him in FA. [It's probably not necessary to post if that information is already included on your trade block] He's been on my block for two weeks, and although I received offers which most people would think are better I decided to take slightly less because I'm high on the guys involved. I've seen Jorge Cantu a lot recently in AA and think will be hitting 35HR when I'm next competing, I think this kid Pedro Martinez will be the next Sandy Koufax, and using my own personalised dollar valuing system I think JaMarcus Russell will be the best value QB since Dan Marino in '73. All three guys will help me for my title challenge in 1984 and will have several years of control beyond that which will be a tradeable asset."
would be what we're looking for of a top player were being traded in a deal that was potentially contentious.
For non-contentious and/or low value deals a brief line or two may be sufficient to explain your motivations.
Do not be insulted or annoyed if TC request that you elaborate on your reasoning - if asked to do so please provide as many details as necessary to provide evidence as to why this deal is good for your team. Referencing back to your trade block (something like "I'm desperate to move Michael Young for cap purposes, and after 5 days on my block this is the only offer I received" or "As per my trade block I've been looking to swap a 3B for a LF and this is the best deal I've found" would be ideal) help TC see the clear thinking that has gone into your team management.
