Hey y’all,
I’ll be in and out of service for the next 4-5 months, though I don’t expect to miss too many days in a row, if any at all.
Reach out if you see anything to trade…I imagine that itch will still be there.
Ever Onward, Eric

I’ve now finished the Appalachian Trail. 2200 miles, 17 Mt. Everests in ascent, 170 days (154 hiking days), and lots of struggles and smiles.
Thanks to all who wished me luck…it definitely helped!

If you want to go ahead and check out for the next few weeks, I'd be totally cool and support that. Just unplug, maybe don't even set your roster, and enjoy the world.

Eric, would kinda like to hear more about 'lots of struggles and smiles' Oh man. A few struggles from this year: - Started February 24th, which meant no temps above 60 for the first 6 weeks…like not even during the day. The Smokies were stupid cold. Once I walked 15 miles through freezing rain, slept in a shelter (a three-sided crude building in the adirondack style) with a dozen other hikers, and we all woke up to it having dropped to 8 degrees over night. Everything froze. People were cracking their shirts and socks to dry them. I then walked 20 miles over the highest mountain on the trail, Clingman’s Dome, with frozen trails — the rain the day before had frozen solid while still pouring down the trails. No spikes, many falls, but that hike set the tone. - Rainiest Mt. Washington summer on record, which indicates how wet it was in the northeast. I have gone back through my journal, and I had 55 wet days of hiking out of 154…that sucked, yeah? But 35 of the last 50 days were wet. That sucked way more. A guy died in Vermont trying to ford a river, another is still missing, and I had to cross dozens of knee to waist deep water. Not even mentioning the difference between climbing slate and granite mountains while slick with rain versus dry from the sun. - Due to rain, trails were creeks even when it wasn’t raining. I went through FIVE pairs of shoes, mostly due to trudging through mud. Three pairs in the last 700 miles due to these heinous conditions. - Severe drought in Virginia and Pennsylvania while I was there, which meant water carries for camp of nearly 5 miles (this adds 5-7lbs to your pack) many nights. - I had three hikes: 1200 miles alone, with my dog for 500 miles, then with my wife for 500 miles. Amazing time, but changing pace and carrying more weight were often problematic for my body and joints. - I fell 31 times. Like full butt to ground, feet out from under me falls. 21 of those were in NH and Maine. A few smiles: - So many awesome folks, views, and chats. So many memories. - FANTASTIC weather my last week (sparing one 19-mile hike through 4-inches of rainfall), including the final summit. - I finished…fewer than 25% of those who start do so. - BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE. Haven’t weighed 170lbs since middle school, lost nearly 40lbs. - I fell 31 times. No injuries. Fuck yeah.
