Major League Experience Players that have been on major league rosters in the last 2-3 years but may be on a minor league or overseas roster at the time of this posting.
Reclamation projects and/or cheap gambles
SP Alec Mills (Free Agent) $1 5th
It's only a dollar but I'd rather you pay him than me. Can be had cheap. Good command, tricky injury history and not much of a record of success, but still has potential to be rehabbed by teams savvier on the pitching dev front than the Royals or Cubs.
P Alex(ander) Wells (Free Agent) $0.3 1st
A 26-year-old starter that's had flashes of talent but probably needs to be moved to the bullpen to find reliable success. Good command and above average off-speed pitches tells me he's gotta find a home somewhere.
RP Jacob Lemoine (Free Agent) $0.3 1st
Only 29, he still has time to find a home and try to get back to his minor league production of (mostly) sub-3.00 ERA.
1B/2B/3B Sheldon Neuse (Japan) $0.5 2nd
Great in the minors but struggled to find his way in the majors, he's definitely a longer-term bet but I'd rather see him be successful on your roster a few years from now than unprotect him and feel like I'm bailing on the potential he once demonstrated.
RP Jeurys Familia (Free Agent) $1.5 2023
A veteran depth piece on a short-term commitment.
RP Nick Wittgren (Free Agent) $0.9 2023
Solid from 2016-2020, there may be someone in a video room somewhere figuring out how to fix his mechanics to get back to that.
RP Caleb Smith (Free Agent) $1 6th
Won’t be competing this year so he won’t cost much! May end up unprotected by the time the season rolls around.
LF/RF Luis Barrera (Angels [MiLB]) $0.3 1st
Recently signed by the Angels to a minor league deal, he's got a decent hit tool with untapped power and ++ speed. I'd love to see Mike Trout play 162+ games in 2023 but recent history tells me that outfield depth pieces in LAA are likely to find their way to some playing time in a back-up OF/pinch runner capacity or better.
