Mets protect P Adam Oller Remaining cap 3M Si.com reported the inclusion of Adam Oller in the Bassit trade several hours before this post. As per rule 7.1, Oller was therefore not eligible to be protected by Mets when this post attempting to protect him was made.

Mets protect: Walker Lockett (Reds) $1.0 (3rd) Cap hit: +1.0 Remaining cap: 1.1M Hi Jason, As noted in your post, after signing last night Walker Lockett is a member of the real-life Reds organisation. As the Mets team in our league, you are only allowed to protect 1st-6th players that are within the real-life Mets organisation (assuming that they are not already owned elsewhere by another team). For example, this is why you (and nobody else) were able to protect Travis Blakenhorn as you did on April 30th. The rules governing this are covered in section 7.1 of the constitution. Lockett is not a member of the real life Mets, so he is not eligible for you to protect. Please remove Lockett from your rosters as soon as possible. As an ineligible player, penalties as described in rule 6.4.1 would apply if he accumulates stats in your active lineup on the scoring website. Please PM me directly if you require any further assistance with the rules around our 1st-6th and player protection concepts. Thanks, Stephen

So, he was on my roster as a Korean player that was signed by the Mets at one point, and if he was active, he'd be $1.0 3rd. But because I removed him, that's the situation, so I should have just removed him outright and not kept him on my roster...? My "mistake" in this case was not keeping him protected by rostering him, correct?

But because I removed him, that's the situation, so I should have just removed him outright and not kept him on my roster...? My "mistake" in this case was not keeping him protected by rostering him, correct? Hi Jason, That is correct. When you unprotect a player who is not a real-life Met, you lose the rights to be able to protect them again. An example of this is my recent unprotect of Kyle Zimmer. He is now a real life Red. Now that he is unprotected, the only team in the league who can currently protect him is the Reds. If Zimmer were to leave the real-life Reds prior to Mibble Reds protecting him, they would then no longer have the rights to protect him and the next real-life team that he signed for would. Likewise, any 1st-6th player in the real-life Mets organisation (that is not already protected by another team) can currently be protected by you. If they leave the Mets organisation for any reason prior to you protecting them, your ability to protect them is gone. Who you keep protected on your roster is a strategic decision. I protect Jack Leiter because I don't want to risk unprotecting him and see the Rangers trading him to another team - whereby I would lose him. I don't protect Jake Guenther because we only have $100.0 of cap space available, and whilst I don't want to lose the guy if he leaves the real life Rangers my strategic decision is that the risk of losing him is less than the risk of not allocating that money elsewhere on my roster. At the time, unprotecting Lockett to free up $1.0 of cap space seemed a entirely normal and understandable move to my eye - so not one that I would recommend you beat yourself up about. I hope this helps. Stephen
