R: 53 - Josh Rojas

Worst BA: .133 - Martin Maldonado

Worst WHIP: 1.714, 25.2 IP - Brett de Geus
Season summary:
Our W/L record is probably better than deserved based on the overall performance of this year’s team. A team that’s average across the board with no specific strengths probably ends up right where we settled at year’s end.
Surprises:
- CF,RF Bryan De la Cruz (.286, 1 HR) Surprise! He landed a role in the major leagues. He still seems likely to be a bench bat going forward, but I’m thrilled he’s getting a chance.
- 1B John Nogiwski (.263, 1 HR) Same story as Bryan De la Cruz. It’s great he got his shot. His hot streak coincided with Goldschmidt’s departure from my team. So the timing couldn’t have been better.
- CF Jake Meyers (.273) Phenomenal in AAA. Perhaps best of all is that he has shown continual improvement.
- SP Luis Garcia (3.41 ERA, 1.155 WHIP) Who needs AA or AAA?
Disappointments:
- RF Michael Conforto (.220, 7 HR) It seems like he’s had a lot of starts and stops this year.
- 3B Maikel Franco (.188, 7 HR) I worry about Franco finding MLB employment next year.
- RP Enoli Paredes (8.10 ERA, 3.000 WHIP) Instead of closing games for the Astros, he’s deservedly working middle relief for the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Awards:
Team Batting MVP: Josh Rojas. Plays all over the field. Usually contributes something good.
Honorable mention: Wilmer Flores. (.252, 12 HR)
Team pitching MVP: Luis Garcia.
Honorable mention: Patrick Sandoval.
Minor league player of the year (batting or pitching): RHP Hunter Brown. Too many walks; but plenty of strikeouts. I suspect we will see him next year.
Runner up: Jonathan Bermudez. (3.32 ERA, 1.18 WHIP)
Final thoughts:
It was great to get back to H2H this year. Stephen continues to excel in the administration of the league.
The season had fewer disruptions due to COVID than I expected.
Just hoping there’s not a work stoppage next year.
It is also a relief to have the forfeited draft picks from the trash can banging scandal completely in the rear view mirror. Now if I can only learn how to avoid the managerial mistakes that are far more consequential.
Thanks to everyone for another fun year.
