Padres get: SP Gerrit Cole (free agent) $17.0 2022+ Royals get: SP Eduardo Rodriguez (Red Sox) $6.9 6th SS CJ Abrams (Padres) $.3 1st (previously unprotected) www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa3010152&position=SS1B Daniel Murphy (Rockies) $8.0 2021+ RP Pedro Baez (free agent) $5.8 6th SP Edgar Martinez (Padres) $.3 1st (previously unprotected) www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa3006490&position=PCap change: Royals +$4.3; Padres -$3.7 Reasoning: I was looking for a good prospect for Cole and got someone I like in Abrams. He ranks top 50 some places and projects well statistically. E-Rod gets lots of Ks and should keep my starting rotation competitive, although losing Cole my rotation will be significantly worse than last year. Murphy is a somewhat negative contract. Neither Bill nor I could find any write-up on Edgar Martinez, probs bc he shares a name with a HOF-er, but he was pretty good in the AZL last year at 18. This was a fun negotiation, thanks Bill. I'm looking forward to seeing what Cole-Verlander-Scherzer-Clevinger-Syndergaard does for you in 2020!

Note Baez is a free agent this year but also a 6th year player.

Thanks Yordan, Padres accept. My reasoning is two fold, to try and assemble possibly the greatest rotation in league history and to get out from under Murphy's contract. Sure, Cole cost is a big undertaking, but since I have Scherzer at a similar cost, I feel those values are palatable. I simply overpaid for Murphy a few years ago (even with the hometown discount!).
As for what I give up, Rodriguez is a very good pitcher, but I dont know what direction the Red Sox go this offseason, and he did get shelled a few times last year. We covered Murphy. Baez had a good year last year, so as a reliever, our format elevates RP arbitration prices. He's overpriced at this point. Edgar Martinez is relatively unknown and far away from the show, I'll probably regret this 5 years from now. Abrams is a potential top level spec, but hes at a position I have surplus in with Tatis, Urias and Tim Anderson. I feel I can part with him to get a top 5 pitcher.
