Hey, so, weird trade alert. This is almost entirely about Darvish for Folty. Yu has been much better lately and holds value for this season. He’s likely not what he was, though, so the $8.0 option for next year is probably not something I’d pick up. Folty is a complete mess and holds little value for this season. Last season, I believe, was an outlier, but I could see him getting back to a league average type guy next season, which would be on a cheapish contract and be helpful for me. If Folty’s terrible again, he’s an easy drop. Given my narrow path to a WC slot and the small effect Yu would have on me obtaining said slot given matchups etc, I’m glad to try and get some future value out of him. The rest of the deal is a mishmash of matching up salary, depth , needs and timelines.
Thanks for the deal, Bill, was an interesting one.

Padres accept. Bill is right, the crux of this deal is Yu for Folty. I believe Folty can rebound next yr and do so for a cheap player rater price, but hes doing me no favors now.... I'd prefer to take my chances with Yu. Also getting a depth bat and RP piece while cutting a lot of my dead salary made this worth it for me to give up the ghost of Folty.
Thanks Bill for the easy, yet complex talks.
