Yankees/PadresYankees trade:SP - Masahiro Tanaka (Yankees) $5.1 6th RP - Brad Wieck (Padres) $0.3 1st - www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=16390&position=PPadres trade:RHP Cal Quantrill (Padres) $0.3 1st - www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa738477&position=P3B Sheldon Neuse (Athletics) $0.3 1st - www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa738949&position=3BCap change:Yankees: -$4.8 Padres: +$4.8 Reason:Yankees accept. This one took longer than our other trades together. I think its because we both feel the same about re-signing Tanaka with the way free agency has been. Hate to lose him but I like the fact that I save some cap and get back two solid prospects who I think will be able to help this year or next. Quantrill was a former top 50 prospect. He clearly has the stuff but the results haven't been there. I expect them to come soon. Neuse has the bat and arm to be an everyday MLBer. He had a great spring training last year and can crush left handed pitchers. He played last year at the triple A level so his time should be coming soon. Wieck did well in his time up with the Padres. He could be a sneaky surprise. I'll miss him as I picked him a couple years ago when he was a nobody.
Thanks again for your patience Bill!! Always great dealing with you!!

Padres accept. I simply can't pass up a deal that helps my win now approach. Tanaka will be a good source of wins and strikeouts without hurting me in WHIP and ERA. Adding him to my rotation gives me what I think is in the upper echelon of starting rotations in this league (Scherzer, Verlander, Clevinger, Folty, Tanaka, Rodon). Sure, Tanaka will likely fetch $37 on next years FA market if the current trends continue, but that is next year's problem, and I'll only have to spend $29.6 to get him back with the discount. Wieck is indeed a sneaky option that I think can have a significant role in the Padres pen, glad to have him back.
On the surface, I don't like moving Quantrill for just one year of anyone, but he has been fading in the Padres prospect rankings. I'm sure much of that has to do with the rise of others, but he didn't fair too well in AAA last year. My concern is he is more of a mid to back of the rotation guy than the anchor most envisioned early on. Neuse is another guy who was gang busters a couple of season's ago but faded last year. My concern is his power decline and being stuck behind Chapman. I felt it was a calculated risk to sell him now.
Thanks Ramesh for another trade, I think we had more back and forth in this one than in all others combined, but we still found an agreement I think we are both satisfied with.
