Red Sox Rationale: I had been hoping to find a way to keep Blackmon but just cannot balance my team with an offensive budget loaded with Harper, Betts, Machado and Blackmon. I tried marketing both Machado but didn't come close to getting what I was looking for. Was hoping for more from Blackmon than this but it became evident pretty quickly that other owners don't see his 4-year $13.8 million salary as positively as I do considering his age.
This is not a salary dump by any means, although creating cap space for this season and next was a key component. I'm excited to add Andrew Miller to my bullpen . . . actually, at this point he IS my bullpen. Hoping he will catch on as a closer for a contender and regain some of the magic of his past dominant seasons. Solarte isn't great but seems like a guy you want to root for and will fill a hole I have at second base. The two prospects are more flyers than prospects I would target but they both are young with some potential to make an impact at the major league level.
Can't say I am super thrilled that I didn't have more interest in Blackmon but this trade does what it needed to for my team. Thanks for working with me Bill and good luck this season.

I accept. I'm willing to take on Blackmon's salary for his usual across the board production, although the length is a definite risk for his age. He has regressed the past couple of seasons, but I think he can at least have a slight rebound.
I lose my best chance at having a full time closer and my current listed second baseman, but I feel that filling my outfield gap was worth losing those pieces. I didn't get too attached to Wade and Garcia, since I just acquired them.
Thanks Scooter for striking up the convo, nice working with you on this.
In the process of dropping my guys in fantrax

The trade post should list cap change as below Cap change: Boston: +$7.0 Padres: -$7.0 That's actually inverted. I think the confusion is usually we say who traded away who rather than who received who. Boston saves 7 in cap with this deal, SD takes on 7 in cap

Also for what its worth, Solarte is a Free Agent and will not have SS eligibility next year
