August 2015 announcements:
1. Any player who will be on a non-guaranteed contract (1st-6th) for the 2016 season may be protected and listed on each individual team's roster page at this time.
Please remember to post any roster changes in a separate "protect/unprotect" thread, so that the rest of the league can be aware of all transactions.
You may use the current 2015 ESPN player rater to estimate the salaries of arbitration eligible (4th-6th) players before the end of the regular season. After the regular season finale, these contracts will need to be revised based on the end of season stats.
2. I'll be a little less active from now through August 23rd. Starting Monday, August 24th however, invitations to the appropriate ESPN leagues will be sent out. If you don't receive it on or around August 24th, please contact me ... or call emergency services.
3. If there are still many vacancies by late November 2015, we will need to determine how to handle free agency.
The danger is that all free agents would end up on wonderful contracts to a handful of teams, putting future owners at a serious disadvantage. I have great confidence that the league will grow, but fear creating irreparable damage in its infancy.
My current line of thought to remedy this is as follows: If we still have less than 20 active teams, all FA starting bids must be at minimum 200% of the ESPN player rater value for the previous year. Bidding can then proceed as normal.
It's an artificial constraint to enforce prices. Some players may not even be worth an offer. (Colby Lewis and Joakim Soria come to mind.) This is just one idea to prevent the 10-15 teams from loading up on cheaply priced high performers.
This isn't a decision that has to be made immediately, but any input would be appreciated. Should we delay FA if there are too few teams? How long can it be delayed? Should we vote on the 200% rule? Are there any other suggestions?
4. I continue to hope that ESPN brings back its forums at some point for the sake of advertising this league. In the meantime, I've had difficulty with several other sites, and am not very tech-savvy. If anyone has any suggestions, the ability to advertise, or invite others, please feel free to do so.
Thanks again to all who have taken the time to apply. For better or worse, 2016 will be here before we know it.
