Padres accept this deal. Solid pitchers go for a premium in Free agency. While Cueto under performed last season, I think it was more of an anomaly than the new normal for him. I also expect the Giants to make a splash signing or two to get their pitchers some run support next season. I'm happy to slot him in behind Scherzer as my #2 SP. Getting back some Padres specs that I will be unprotecting was just gravy.
Eickhoff and Shoemaker are solid pieces with years of control remaining, but with my compete now approach I gain more in adding Cueto than what I think they can contribute. The specs I sent back were just acquired this offseason, so I had no real attachment to them.
Thanks for another easy deal, Ramesh. Good luck on continuing the rebuild.

Accept. Cueto dropped. As I continue to rebuild dealing Cueto was on my list to deal. I like the fact that I'm getting back two controlable pitchers(both of whom showed success) and two young arms. Shoemaker isn't as young as I'd like but two years of control helps. Morales is a projected backend starter. None of his pitches are elite but he has 4 pitches and pitches them well. His numbers have been very good since the Angels signed him. He could very well be called up next year. Hockin has the makings of a closer. Above average fastball and a nasty slider. Helps his grandfather is Harmon Killebrew. Cueto had a down year but I expect a bounce back. Not sure if he'll get back to his dominate ways and I didn't want to be locked in until 2020. The two Padres prospects are guys I was going to unprotect at some point soon.
Good luck Bill!! Hope Cueto gets back to his old self.
