2017 Astros' Team Report:
2017 results:
94 wins, 76 losses, 10 ties (30 games worse than 2016)
3rd in AL West
Missed playoffs
Category leaders (In terms of stats contributed to my results throughout the year. Not necessarily on my roster at the end of the year, nor the players' end of year stat totals.):
BA: Joey Votto .303 (Gerardo Parra batted .395 over 76 ABs)
HR: Anthony Rendon 22
RBI: Anthony Rendon 76
R: Anthony Rendon 62
SB: Marcus Semien 7
Team Batting MVP: Anthony Rendon
K: Justin Verlander 116
ERA: Charlie Morton 3.83 (notables: Justin Verlander 3.98, Blake Parker 1.71, Dallas Keuchel 0.86)
WHIP: Charlie Morton 1.248 (notables: Blake Parker 0.857, Chris Devenski 0.897, Dallas Keuchel 0.619)
W: Charlie Morton 9
SVHD: Yusmeiro Petit, Shane Greene 9
Team pitching MVP: Charlie Morton
Minor league player of the year (batting): 1B,LF Yordan Alvarez (Astros) Stats, plate discipline, and potential looks good. Can he break through after following in the footsteps of Brett Wallace, Jon Singleton and other 1B prospects?
Runner up: 2B,LF Tony Kemp (Astros) Always puts the bat on the ball. Blocked by a hall of famer.
Minor league player of the year (pitching): Rogelio Armenteros (Astros) Didn't skip a beat after being promoted to Fresno.
Runner up: SP Wilmer Font (Dodgers) No longer a true prospect, but 170 strikeouts!
Surprises:
1B,2B,3B,SS,LF,RF Sean Rodriguez (Pirates) - The fact that he got back on the field at all was a surprise following an offseason car accident.
RPs Blake Parker (Angels) and Mike Minor (Royals) - Both posted exceptional ratios and strikeouts.
(The fact that my surprises were RPs and a utility infielder explains a lot about my season's results.)
Disappointments:
Padres outfielders Alex Dickerson and Travis Jankowski - Dickerson never played. Jankowski batted .160 for a short time, and more importantly, only stole 2 bases.
Pitchers Joe Musgrove, Tyler Anderson, Jharel Cotton, Ian Kennedy, Robert Gsellman, Grant Dayton and Michael Feliz all put up ERAs over 5.00. Entering the season, I had considered Jimmy Nelson to be my weakest link in the pitching staff. How little we know...
