Sorry we let this one slip. He should've been picked up by Phillies prior to the trade. (Trading of option rights isn't allowed.) The trade can be found here: mlbbaseballleague.proboards.com/thread/1713/mets-philliesWe'll consider it to be understood that Phillies accepted the option before trading Holliday. We'll also try to be more vigilant about this in the future.

So if you acquire someone that another team placed an option year on the option year gets dropped?

Sorry, I should have clarified this a little more. When you trade a player with an option year in his contract, that option year remains part of the contract. Only the team holding the player at the outset of the off-season gets to decide whether or not to pull him off of the free-agent list.
In this case, Matt Holliday was officially a free agent still at the time of the trade. Philly did not have the rights to trade him, until the option was picked up. The proper sequence should have been 1) re-acquire the player by posting acceptance in the FA thread, 2) post the trade. The TC and myself missed the fact that a free agent was traded. However, the intentions of both teams seem rather clear. It's apparent that Philly intended to pick up Holliday's option and trade him to the Mets. It appears to be simply a case of mishandled paperwork.
