"The previous bid was determined to be invalid. The winning team had already used their 2 team options for 2016. As a result, this contract is voided per rule 6.6, and Coghlan will again be a free agent. Previously, the following had also been announced: "Future bids found to be invalid (for any reason) will be voided. If a bid thought to have won is voided then the last valid bid will be re-instated, and that contract will be awarded to the player as if the invalid bid was never made. It is the bidding GM's responsibility to ensure the validity of any and all bids they make." Read more: mlbbaseballleague.proboards.com/thread/815/second-basemen-available-25-16#ixzz3yvx5Sk00After discussion, it was decided that the free agent(s) in question should have the entire thread voided, and will be placed back on the market in the final round of free agents. This action has been agreed upon as we felt that the prior ruling/procedure was not suitable for all eventualities (especially those where invalid "winning" bids were discovered after the auction had ended). The rule book will be amended over the next several days to reflect these decisions. Chris Coghlan will therefore be made available in the final round. Due to the infraction, the Cubs will not be allowed to bid on him at that time.

Chris Coghlan will therefore be made available in the final round. Due to the infraction, the Cubs will not be allowed to bid on him at that time. As this infraction occurred prior to the new rule 5(2016).12.3 being published, Adam and I have reviewed the fairness of this penalty. As a result of this review, Cubs will not be prohibited from bidding on Chris Coghlin when he is re-auctioned in the Final Round for Free Agents.
